The plum blossom has been a timeless subject in Chinese literature and art for centuries, especially favored by ancient intellectuals and scholars as a metaphor for themselves. Each piece of this set features distinctly full white plum blossoms against a contrasting field of blue. The plum blossoms are painted with five petals, along with hardy layered branches and buds, depicting a vivid image of a plum blossom in the snow. One can imagine the subtle fragrance floating in the air.
This round shaped gaiwan consists of just a lid and body, without a base. Gaiwans that only have these two components are referred to as two-talents gaiwans, which have become more popular in recent years and feature a design more suitable for oolong and black tea brewing. This set will surely make your tea ritual more enjoyable as well as a great investment for many years to come.
The outer rim of the base plate is also painted with a flower motif as decoration. It can also be used as a regular serving plate or simply as a display.
