Wood-firing is labor intensive and requires extensive experience. The firing process is much longer than other firing method, sometimes lasts 4-5 days. This method uses oil-rich pine wood to generate heat, as the wood burns it generates a lot of ashes which then falls on the skin of the clay ware. At very high temperature, these ashes then glaze over the surface. Also, the flames that near the source of fire would leave some stain on the surface producing change of colors on the ware. Therefore wood-fired pottery has the special character that distinguishes itself from the kilns that use electric and gas kilns, these special effects has metallic radiance and radiant finish with a range of color spectrum.
