Authentic Yixing Zisha Purple Clay Teapot Jiangpo Duan Ni Fang Gu
Fang Gu, originally meaning "drum shape", is a classic style originated by the famed Qing dynasty great master Shao Da Heng (邵大亨). The drum shape was inspired from the ancient war battle drum that is used to inspire and encourage the soldiers, so the shape of this type of teapot usually implies imposing discipline. Fang Gu has been very popular since its creation, and this style has been imitated by generations of potters. Fang Gu has a wide bottom with a large belly, a large flat lid, and a "buddha ear" handle. All parts are balanced and naturally united as a whole, yet it is practical for use and comfortable in the hand.
This tea pot was half-handmade by master Wu, who is sanctioned by the Chinese Arts and Crafts governing authority. The clay is authentic Jiangpo Duan Ni from the Yellow Dragon Mountain of Yixing. This type of zisha adds a native, rustic touch to the teapot. With a wide open mouth, this teapot is especially convenient for brewing large loose leaf tea like white peony and loose leaf black tea. The color of the teapot may differ slightly (more yellowish/green) from the photos below due to varying natural light conditions.
Zisha is known to have the ability to absorb tea liquor and flavor. Over a period of time the surface of the teapot is glazed to reflect the color and aroma of the tea and make the teapot gradient and naturally shine.
