Authentic Yixing Zisha Teapot Spring Plum Blossom
The Plum Blossom teapot was first created by one of China’s great Yixing masters, Zhu Ke Xing (朱可心) in 1971 for the popular Guangdong Import and Export event. Since then it has become a timeless piece and has inspired many younger generations of masters to craft similar teapots. There have been many versions of the plum blossom teapot based on great master Zhu’s work, and this teapot, handmade by master Wu, is one of the exquisite examples of this type. Master Wu has been crafting zisha teapot for thirty years and holds a senior artist certificate sanctioned by the Chinese Arts and Crafts governing authority.
The body of the teapot is shaped like a heart. The sculpture features plum buds and flowers without any leaves, implying the end of winter and the coming spring. The plum flower composition begins adjacent to the handle and then stretches upward, implying its unwavering willingness to brave the cold winter and welcome the spring. The lid uses a twisted trunk with blooming plum flowers on the lid. The spout and handle also feature plum branches reaching and winding, implying the vigorous vitality of life. The plum buds and flowers on the handle, spout and lid proportionately join together as a whole. The raised bottom brings aura of dignity to the pot.
Zisha is known to have the ability to adapt and enhance the flavor of the tea. Over a period of time the surface of the tea pot can reflect the color of the tea that it brews and it's surface become increasingly glazed. The process of the surface becoming glazed called "yang hu", literally meaning "raise the teapot" in Chinese. Zisha teapot lovers regard this process as a fun part of tea enjoyment.
