Lang Gui Jianshui Purple Clay Wood-fired Wu Xiang High Profile Teapot
This one-of-the-kind teapot was handcrafted by the very best master potter Lang Gui, who is the leading Jian Shui wood-firing potter artist and a pioneer in contemporary Jian Shui bionomic naturalism craftmanship. Master Lang Gui grew up in Jian Shui and studied in wood-firing techniques in Japan. He named his studio Langgui as an ironic playfulness as Lang in Chinese means "unrespected job" or doing unvalued business. His dedication for bio-inspired clay craftmanship earned him a reputation as the most famous master potter with wood-firing in Jianshui clay. Victoria visited him during her 2023 sourcing trip and brought some of his works back to the US. The pictures below show master Lang Gui and Victoria standing in front of one of his kilns and also in his studio.
This hand-crafted teapot is an art work of master Lang Gui' studio from his Wu Xiang series. Wu Xiang is a Buddhist philosophy that reflects freedom, spirituality, and understanding. Master Lang Gui designs his pottery artwork to reflect endless possibilities in a limited form. In his Wu Xiang series, each teapot is very unique in every aspect. This teapot represents the humble character in craftmanship. Unlike other teapots that shine with metallic radiance, this teapot adds charm from its free flow and natural character. Fired at 1200 degress Celsius, this teapot is an exquisite combination of wood-firing aesthetics and fine art work. A truly well-made teapot worthy of owning, and is a solid investment for your teaware collection.
